Heat waves

In Álava, all Euskalmet weather stations have recorded temperatures above 30 degrees Celsius. The highest values have been recorded in the Gardea district (Llodio), with 38ºC; in Zambrana, with 37.9ºC; and in Amurrio, Paganos, Campezo and Espejo, with 37.4 degrees.

In Bizkaia, the maximum has been recorded in Igorre, with 38 degrees, but in many inland towns there are values above 35 ° C: Sodupe (37.2 ° C), Zalla and Elorrio (37.1 ° C), Jarralta (Sopuerta), 36.9 ° C and Balmaseda (36.6 ° C).

In Gipuzkoa, the weather station San Prudencio de Bergara has recorded a maximum of 37.5 ° C in the territory and very close to Urkulu (Aretxabaleta) at 37.3 ° C. It has also been very hot in Oñati (36.7 ° C) and Zumarraga (36 ° C).

In the Northern Basque Country, authorities have issued an orange alert for high temperatures. 

Nor does Navarre get rid of the heat, and thermometers have reached 40ºC in the Ribera.

According to the Department of Health, 37 of these 55 persons have had to be transferred to hospitals and health centres. The largest number of cases have occurred in Gipuzkoa (40), with the highest number of heat incidents on 24, 28 and 29 June.
