These are the jewels stolen at the Louvre
The robbers carried a diadema of Queen Mary Amelia and Queen Hortensia; a necklace of sapphire of these queens; an earring of the same cluster; an emerald necklace of Queen Mary Luisa; a pair of emerald earrings of Mary Luisa; a brooch; a diadema of Empress Eugenia; and a brooch of the empress herself.
In their flight they lost the crown of Empress Eugenia de Montijo, the Spanish wife of Emperor Napoleon III (1852-1870), and was damaged.
it is a crown of 1,354 diamonds and 56 emeralds, created for the empress on the occasion of the Universal Exhibition of 1855. This exhibition, after the change of regime to the Third Republic, was sold in 1870 by the French State in 1885 as a means of liquidating its monarchical past, and returned to its possession more than a century later by a donation.
Those stolen are jewels of "incalculable patrimonial value and historical value."
What do we know about the jewellery theft at the Louvre?
Four people stole several historical pieces from the world's most visited museum, including the jewels of Queens Maria Amelia and Eugenia de Montijo. One of them was lost during the flight, and the Paris Public Prosecutor's Office is investigating what happened.
They stole Napoleon's jewels at the Louvre Museum
The French Minister of Culture has assured us that the theft has an "incalculable" value, including the jewels of Napoleon and Empress Eugenia. On the other hand, the museum will remain closed throughout Sunday to "protect the evidence."
