The heat wave could leave 14 people dead in the ACV according to the MoMo system
Osakidetza has also treated 72 people since last weekend for problems related to high temperatures, although most cases have been mild.
According to estimates by the Carlos III Health Institute 's Daily Mortality Monitoring System (Momo), the heat wave that can be felt throughout the ACV could cause the deaths of 14 people.
The data includes the mortality rate that could be caused by high temperatures between May 22nd and 27th. According to Momo, Saturday was the most critical day with four potentially heat-related deaths, with three deaths counted on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, and one on Friday.
The Momo system does not count confirmed deaths, but does a statistical calculation , combining mortality data with temperature thresholds considered a health risk.
In addition, the organization recalls that the summer of 2025 left 126 deaths in the ACV between 15 May and 15 September, 63 more than the previous year.
More than 70 health care in a few days
According to data provided by Osakidetza, the emergency services have treated 72 people as a result of the heat.
Most cases have been mild, related to symptoms such as dizziness, fatigue or disorientation. Most of those affected have been treated on the ground, although some have had to be taken to hospital for medical follow-up. Most of the incidents have been recorded in Bizkaia and Gipuzkoa.
Health authorities have recommended extreme precautions, especially among the elderly, children under four, pregnant women, the chronically ill and those engaged in outdoor physical activity.
