Former Serb commander Ratko Mladic, known as the 'Bosnian butcher' and convicted in November 2017 of war crimes and crimes against humanity committed during the armed conflict (1992-1995), died at the age of 84 in a prison in The Hague.
Mladic was sentenced to life imprisonment by the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia after pleading guilty to 10 counts, including the genocide in Srebrenica, where he has suffered several brain spills during his years in prison.
His family had asked the court to allow him to receive treatment in Serbia; Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic had also recently requested it, but Mladlic finally died on Thursday, according to Serbian public television station RTS.
