Post will temporarily suspend shipments of low-value packages to the United States and Puerto Rico
As reported by the Post in a statement this Friday, U.S. customs rules have been amended to remove the tariff exemption applicable to low-value shipments, so Post will only accept such shipments until 23:59 on Sunday 24.
The Post Office will temporarily suspend the approval of packages to the United States or Puerto Rico for a commercial value equal to or less than $800 (€681.5) from 25 August, due to the end of the minimis regime.
As reported in a statement this Friday, the reason would be to amend United States customs rules to exempt low-value shipments from tariff payments, so Post will only accept such shipments until Sunday 24, 23:59.
From 29 August, all shipments of goods bound for the United States or Puerto Rico shall be subject to tariffs in accordance with the country of origin and the value of the product.
As a result of this situation, the Post Office, like all postal operators, such as the German DHL, will have to "significantly" modify its processes and increase the controls on shipments in order to be able to impose new conditions.
This, they warn from the public company, will have a "significant" impact on international mail logistics and e-commerce flows.
However, letters and documents of no commercial value, books or gifts sent by private individuals, equal to or less than $100 (€85.2), shall continue to be accepted without any effect on them.
