On Monday, the Official State Gazette (BOE) published that Hernani, Lezo and Tolosa, the three municipalities of Gipuzkoa , have been declared a tense housing market.
With the inclusion of these three localities in the list of strained areas announced last week by the Basque Government, 14 municipalities in the Basque Country are already included in this legal figure, which makes it possible to limit the price of rent in areas where access to housing is difficult.
Previously in the Basque Country, Errenteria, Zumaia, Lasarte-Oria, Barakaldo, Irun, Galdakao, San Sebastián, Bilbao, Astigarraga, Usurbil and Vitoria-Gasteiz were declared strained areas, a three-year regime that can then be extended over time.
Ten of the 14 municipalities designated in the Basque Country are located in Gipuzkoa and comprise more than half of the population of the Basque Country.
The Housing Department is in the process of declaring Arrasate, Zestoa, Pasaia and Basauri as a tense area.
