Two Metro guards report a "brutal" attack in Urduliz
CC. OO. has asked Metro Bilbao and the contracting company to provide the staff with the appropriate means to deal with situations of "extreme violence".
CC. OO. has reported that two private subway security guards at Urduliz station last night suffered a "brutal attack" by a group of graffiti artists who, according tothe plant, beat the two professionals as they tried to prevent them from painting a meter.
The assailants, one of whom suffered a cut and broke two fingers of one hand, are on leave, but out of danger, and have reported the incident to the Ertzaintza, the union has reported.
According to a statement, the incident occurred around 10:00yesterday, when, while the two guards were working, a group of nine graffiti artists entered Urduliz station and began painting a convoy.
In trying to prevent the action, the group "violently attacked" the two professionals, and the graffiti artists fled the station after the attack.
The Ertzaintza and health personnel went to the scene to assist the two guards, who were subsequently taken to Urduliz Hospital .
CC. OO. condemns "another episode of intolerable violence against those who do essential work to ensure the safety of public transport users".
The centre has urged Metro Bilbao and the contracting company of the security service I-SEC Aviation Security to take immediate and effective measures to protect workers.
The union has called, among other things, for thedelivery of pepper spray to the security guard, "as is the case in Renfe or ADIF at Abando station" in Bilbao.
