The reduction in VAT on light and gas will be suspended on 1 June and will return to 21% as prices have fallen
The reduced rates of fuel (petrol, diesel and biofuels, and partial return of professional diesel) and hydrocarbon tax will remain in force until 30 June, as inflation for these products remains above the 15% threshold set by the government in April.
VAT on electricity, natural gas, briquettes, pellet and wood will fall from 10% to 21% on 1 June, as consumer prices for these supplies fell in April, the Ministry of the Economy reported on Thursday.
"The fall in electricity and natural gas prices makes it possible to start deactivating measures on electricity and VAT excise duty," says the ministry's statement, which also states that the reduction in electricity tax will also be reversed from 0.5% on 1 June to the usual 5%.
However, the tax on the value of electricity productionwill remain suspended until 30 June , as well as other sectoral measures, such as aid to farmers and carriers, and the enhanced discount on the electric social bond, 42.5% for vulnerable consumers and 57.5% for serious vulnerable consumers.
The decree adopted at the extraordinary meeting of the Council of Ministers on 20 March, which included a plan to respond to the war against Iran, guaranteed the fiscal rebate for April and May, but provided for its deactivation from June, depending on price developments.
Fuel VAT at 10% until 30 June
The reduced rates of fuel (petrol, diesel and biofuels, and partial return of professional diesel) and hydrocarbon tax will remain in force until 30 June, as inflation for these products remains above the 15% threshold set by the government in April.
The Ministry of the Economy has pointed out that fuels continue to be pressured upwards as a result of the Iranian war, but has stressed that the response plan is meeting the target of mitigating the impact, which has slowed inflation on this product by more than 16 percentage points.
