The Basque economy grew 2.2% from March last year to this year, driven by services and construction
In the last year, 12,434 jobs have been created in the Basque Country, with a positive year-on-year trend in employment in construction (1.2 per cent) and services, while falling by 0.2 per cent in industry and the primary sector.

The gross domestic product (GDP) of the Basque Country grew by 2.2% in the first quarter of 2026 compared with the same period of the previous year, according to data published today by the Basque Instituteof Statistics, Eustat. The services and construction sectors have been the main drivers of this growth, due to the decline of the industry.
By territory, the annual growth of the economy has been 2.3 per cent in Álavaand Bizkaia, above the Basque average, and 2 per cent in Gipuzkoa.

Service sectoractivity has increased by 2.9 per cent over the same quarter of 2025 and 1.1 per cent over the last quarter of the previous year.
Constructionhas recorded a year-on-year growth of 2.5%.
Industryis down 0.3% from the same quarter of the previous year and 1.1% from the last quarter.
The creation of 12,434 jobs in one year
Employment, measured in full-time equivalent jobs, has increased by 1.3 per cent, with 12,434 more jobs than in the previous year, compared with 0.2 per cent in the last quarter.
The year-on-year trend in employment has been positive for construction(1.2 per cent) and services (1.7 per cent), while it has fallen by 0.2 per cent for industryand the primary sector.
