The Basque Countrywill receive 407.2 million eurosin 2027 to financethe dependency care system, more than double the 153.3 million received in 2024, so the Statewill assume 50%of the expenditure of the Basque institutions.
Noel d'Anjou, the Finance and Finance Adviser of the Basque Government, has stressed that the agreement puts an end to the negotiation process that began last year and that it has been "protected" within the framework of the Economic Concert, so that funding will not be subject to future legislative changes in the State and will provide greater security for the Basque institutions.
Thus, the state contribution will rise to EUR 280.4 million this year to EUR 407.2 million by 2027.
Increased funding
The amendment represents an increase of almost EUR 250 million per year from a few years ago, as well as interim funding for 2026 and 2027 to ensure that the transition to the new model is in an orderly manner.
A "protected" deal
The Basque Government has explained that the agreement reinforces the uniqueness of the Economic Concert by incorporating the financing system into a bilateral mechanism that will not be possible despite future legislative changes.
With more resources, the Basque institutions plan to expand and strengthen care for dependents in the coming years.
