Basque roads ready to start the first summer exit operation starting on Friday
TheBasque Government expects international traffic across Iparralde to increase by 3.8% and internal trafficby 3%.
The roads of the Basque Country are preparing for the summer round. Tomorrow, 27 June, at 3 p.m., the departure operation will officially begin, and the Department of Safety and Security has prepared a device consisting of 550 officers.
The Vice-Minister for Civil Protection of theBasque Government, Joana Egiluz, has presented thespecial summer traffic operation of Álava, Bizkaia and Gipuzkoa in the service area of Lopidana, located at the southern exit of Vitoria-Gasteiz.
International traffic, which will cross the Basque Country through the North, is expected to grow by 3.8%. 2.10,000 vehicles will cross our roads and there will be about 4,000 journeys, most of them on the last weekend of July and the first weekend of August, as well as on the last two long weekends of August.
For itspart, internal traffic is expected to increase by 3% compared to last year and over 42.3 million journeys.

Special attention will have to be paid, once again, to the usual critical points, so over the next two months: in Gipuzkoa AP8 on the Biriatou plateau, Araban AP1 link and N622 Burgos and Vitoria, and Armiñon link 0Armiñon and in Bizkaia A A0
The Basque Government will install special operational signage , as well as information panels ERE ERE and for the fifth consecutive year CRANE service A0 will be available to assist vehicles affected or damaged.Last year, in 2024, between July and August, 7 people died in the Basque road network (2 in Álava, 2 in Bizkaia and 3 in Gipuzkoa).
That is why the Vice-Minister for Civil Protection, Joana Egiluz, recalls that the Basque Government is working to be a victim zero and that all the measures taken for the Special Operation Summer Return 2025 have been directed towards this.
