70% of young people in the Basque Country are satisfied with their employment situation
With regard to the main problems affecting the Basque Country, young people first identify the labour market, housing, economic difficulties and health-related issues.
Seventy per cent of young peoplein the Basque Country value their employment situation positively, an increase from 64 per cent in 2019.
Today, 9 July, International Youth Day, the Basque Government has presented a report containing the perceptions of young people, carried out by the Basque Youth Observatory in 2024, using data from the Sociological Prospecting Cabinet.
According to the study, young Basques have a favourable opinion of their personal situation, with a score of 7.2 out of 10, slightly higher than the assessment of those aged 30 or over (7.0).
Withregard to work, what young people like most is the interest in their work (46 per cent), followed by job stability (39 per cent), social benefits (37 per cent) and working hours (34 per cent).
However, only 22 per cent of employed young people claim to be very satisfied with their wages, which is more than 15 per cent among those over 30 years of age.
The report also states that young men are more satisfied than women in terms of job stability and pay , and Nerea Melgosa, Counsellor for Welfare, Youth and Demographic Challenge, stresses the importance of young people seeing their salaries improved in order to meet the demographic challenge.
Withregard to the overall perception, they give the situation in the Basque Country a note of 6.2, slightly higher than that of those over 30 years of age. The assessment of the situation in Spain is lower, with 5.2 points, although it also exceeds the 4.7 points given by those over 30 years of age.
With regard to the main problemsaffecting the Basque Country, young Basques first identify the labour market (37%) and housing (36%), followed by economic difficulties and healthissues, with 20%.
Finally, the report highlights that the university is the institution most trusted by young people (84 per cent), followed by the Basque Public Administrationat three levels: the Basque Government (75 per cent), the Member States (68 per cent) and the municipalities (70 per cent).
