This summer's heat has so far left 41 deaths in the Basque Country
This August, for the time being, only one person has died in the Basque Country as a result of high temperatures. This death coincides with the start of the second wave of summer heat, which will still last a few days.

The summer period, for the time being, has left 41 deaths attributable to heat in the Basque Country, most of them in June (specifically 27), the month in which the first heat waveof this summer was . These are the calculations of the Daily Mortality Monitoring System (Momo), which considers summer time from 15 May to 15 September.
The first death attributable to heat in the Basque Country was in May, a month in which there was only one death due to this cause. Most of the deaths due to high temperatures occurred in June, specifically in the last ten days of the month. These deaths coincided with the first heat wave of the summer, which exceeded 40 degrees in several countries and generally exceeded 35 degrees.
The 27 deaths from heat in June are in contrast to the number recorded in the same month of 2024, when there was only one death associated with heat. As of last July, the number of deaths from heat was 12, similar to 10 in the same month of the previous year. Last summer, between May 15 and September 15, therewere 65 deaths from heat.
Momo has collecteddata until August 5th. So far,only one person has died in the Basque Country as a result of high temperatures. This death coincides with the beginning of the second wave of summer heat. It will still last a few days, and the Department of Safety and Security has activated several yellow warnings in this regard.
In the State as a whole, more than 1,500 deaths from heat have been recorded so far, 42 per cent more than last year.
