26 heat deaths in the Basque Country in August
In summer, there have already been 65 deaths from pathologies associated with excessive temperatures.
A total of 26 people died in the Basque Country in the first half of August from heat, whichis more than double the deaths from high temperatures recorded in August last year, according to data from the Spanish Ministry of Health.
This remarkable increase in warm-related mortality has occurred in the first half of the month, with recent heat alertsand temperatures of up to 45 degrees in some municipalities.
By age, 69 per cent of deaths in this month were in persons over 85 (18 deaths), four in persons aged 75 to 84, two in persons aged 65 to 74 and one in persons aged 45 to 64.
As a result, 65 deaths from over-temperature pathologies have already been recorded in summer, namely 27 deaths in June, 12 in July and 26 in August, and 13 deaths were reported last summer for these reasons.
