Altube will not offer bus service to campuses in Bilbao and Leioa next year
The company has been transporting and bringing students from Vitoria-Gasteiz to the campuses in Bizkaia for four decades, but they argue that the service is not economically viable.
August passes and in the absence of a few weeks for the start of the new university course, Altube, the transport company that for 40 years hasbeen transporting university students from Vitoria to the campuses of the University of the Basque Country (Bilbao or Leioa), will cease to provide service due to economic problems.
This has been communicated to users by email this Monday. Every year there are hundreds of Vitorian students who use these buses every day. From Altube they have explained that the company cannot maintain the service "under economically viable conditions. " The situation is not new, sincethe company has also had problems in the last three years .
Since 1984, Altube has been providing this service to students, but now this historic service will disappear and from now on UniBus will be responsible for transporting students. Onthe 8th of July, this service will be launched , indicating that it will have schedules and stations similar to those provided by Altube.
However, it will be more expensive; the annual payment will be EUR 1 100, EUR 105 more, and can be divided into two payments, and quarterly or monthly payments.
The schedules are already available on the UniBus website. The first bus will leave for Bilbao at 06:20 in the morning and the last return service will be offered at 09:10 in the evening.
