The City Council of San Sebastian has reported that during the nights of this Monday (August 25) and Tuesday the removal of stones from the beach of Ondarreta is planned, provided the weather and sea conditions are adequate.
As has been done in other years, the living tides at the end of August will take advantage of this task and work at night so that people can enjoy the beach during the day.
According to the City Council, a backhoe excavator and three trucks will start operating on Monday night, three hours before the low tide (01:04 in the morning), and will continue after the sea three hours to make the most of the device.
This same intervention would be repeated the next night with the same planning. Another action is also planned two weeks later, on 8 and 9 September, taking advantage of the fact that the living tides are again present.
Stones from the ancient buildings of the beach appear in Ondarreta by the movement of sand caused by the tides.
The City Council intends to "remove as many stones as possible, which have reappeared in Ondarreta in recent weeks due to the tides."
After cleaning the sand removed, he will return to the beach. It is estimated that there are about 14,600 cubic metres of rock on the beach, of which about 10,000 cubic metres have been removed.
