Navarre will host 118 minors within a year, although it is already a "tense" community

Navarrawill host 118 migrant minors in the coming months, despite being an autonomous community with "alreadystrainedreception services  ", as highlighted bythe SocialRights Adviser of the Government of Navarra, Carmen Maeztu Navarra, which will welcome young migrants who belong to it according to the distribution made by the Spanish Government to be generous to the Canary Islands.

On Tuesday, the Council of Ministers of the Spanish Government adopted a decree establishingthe capacity of the Autonomous Communities to host unaccompanied migrant minors, which is currently the last step towards channelling unaccompanied migrant minors, to which the majority of communities are opposed, but which are legally obliged to attend.

In this context, Maeztu has pointed out that the more than EUR 3 million allocated to the Foral Community will not be sufficient and that theywill have to provide their own funds for the placement of minors .

In any case, he explained that they will work with the Spanish Government to help the Canary Islands community, "which has been in an unsustainable situation for too long".

It has also ensured that the current situation is due to the "lack of cooperation"of the communities governed by the PP : "The central government has had to make this decision because of the lack of cooperation of the autonomous communities of the People's Party, which, from the outset, have not been prepared to respond voluntarily to a situation that is a problem for all."

He has also pointed out that "118 migrant minors will not arrive at the same time, but in phases. This transfer procedure will be progressive da." In any case, the deadline set is one year and, according to the Ministry, will begin with the least strained communities. "Navarra is one of the autonomous communities that offers the highest level of care.

"We are talking about children who only arrive in our country and we have an obligation to provide them with a dignified, supportive and, if possible, humanitarian reception," said Spanish Government spokesmanPilar Alegría at the press conference following the Council of Ministers.

In this context, the Basque Countryand Cataloniashould not receive young people in reception because of the effort made so far, but Catalonia intends to serve at least 31 people, the same number as in previous reception campaigns.
