Osakidetza's pilot project will deploy psychologists to 13 primary care health centers
In four centres in Gipuzkoa, two in Álava and seven in Bizkaia, psychologists will act as reference points for the emotional well-being of primary care patients, dealing with the most minor cases and acting as intermediaries between the family doctor and the extra-hospital mental health centres.
The Department of Health of the Basque Government has presented to the Osakidetza trade unions the pilot project that the psychologist will deploy in the Primary Care Health Centres at the Osakidetza Sectoral Bureau held this Wednesday between the two, Osakidetza has reported in a statement.
In this way, psychologists will be working in 13primary care health centres in the Basque Country, four in Gipuzkoa (Altza, Pasai San Pedro, Beasain, Irun-Dunboa), two in Álava (Lakuabizkarra and Salburua) and seven in Bizkaia (Buenavista, Repelega, Otxoarkoaga, Txurdinaga, Santutxu
This pilot project was announced by the President, Imanol Pradales, on 18 September at the first General Policy Plenary in the Basque Parliament.
These psychologists will become a reference for the emotional well-being of Primary Care patients, dealing with even the slightest cases, and will act as mediators between the family doctor and the extra-hospital mental health centers.
In this way, Primary Care psychologists will treat mild disorders or emotional disturbances that affect everyday life, such as anxiety, depression or insomnia, and prepare therapies to address these problems.
The aim of this pilot experience will be to relieve specialized mental health services andto deal withthe lightest cases through "faster and closer care", as well as to provide care for the population that cannot access private therapies.
