San Sebastian and Vitoria will have access to the criminal history of detainees
It is a measure to combat recidivism and strengthen security, and the police officers will be informed directly in the archives of the Ministry of Justice of the records of the detainees.
The Municipal Police of Donostia-San Sebastián and Vitoria-Gasteiz shall have access to the criminal history of persons identified or detained through the SIRAJ administrative registration system, which combines judicial records throughout the Spanish State with the aim of preventing recidivism and strengthening security.
This information has so far been obtained through the Ertzaintza, but from now on the local police may have direct knowledge of the background in the archives of the Ministry of Justice.
In this way, 68 officers, 57 more police officers than so far, will have access to this system. This step will ensure access to information on cases of gender-based violence , as well as knowledge of precautionary measures, requisitions and non-final sentences.
The aim is to promotethe speed and effectiveness of the actions of local police officers and to unblock the agenda for the determination of speedy trials for minor crimes in judicial bodies.
So far, Barcelona has been the only city that has made the request , and Bilbao has been studying the problem of multiple recidivism for a long time, although it has not yet clarified whether it will make the following request.
In particular, all municipalities with more than 250,000 inhabitants and provincial or territorial capitals with more than 175,000 inhabitants are entitled to this request, and therefore the three Basque capitals.
