The Vatican investigates the bishop of Cadiz and Ceuta for alleged child abuse between 1994 and 2000

The Vatican has opened an investigation into alleged sexual abuse of a minor by the Bishop of Rafael Zornoza Boy Cadiz and Ceuta between 1994 and the beginning of 2000, according tothenewspaper El País on Monday.
The newspaper specifies that the complaint was sent last summer to the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith, which has accepted the canonical investigation. Thus, the bishop of Cadiz and Ceuta is the first prelate in Spain to be investigated by the Vatican for paedophilia, as well as the one that has been made public.
The Bishopricof Cadiz and Ceuta, in a note sent to the media , has stated that "the accusations concerning the events that took place almost thirty years ago are very serious and also false".
The Bishopric has also assured us that "we have full confidence in justice" and that it will assist him "in everything requested". In this regard, he has stressed that "it is necessary to recall respect for the presumption of innocence that belongs to all persons".
He has also said that he will not make any further statements "until the decision of the ecclesiastical court is known."
Finally, the bishop has announced his decision to temporarily suspend his agenda to clarify what happened and to undergo treatment for aggressive cancer.
