Zarautz City Council pays tribute to Yoanna Acedo, victim of gender-based violence, and supports her family

The City Council and citizens in Zarautz this Saturday paid tribute to Yoanna Acedo,the last victim of male violence , allegedly murdered by her partner on 15 October in Acedo, and during today's memorial ceremony, a letter was read from her mother.
The event took place at 13:00 in Lege Zaharren Enparantza, with the participation of Mayor Xabier Txurruka and Equality Councillor Gloria Vázquez, among others, who read the letter from Yoanna's mother: "There should be no such tribute, the word murdered should never appear next to Yoanna's name, but we remember reality every day."
He has thanked the citizens and institutions "who have been able to support" the family "for their support so that we can continue to breathe in the darkest days."
She recalled that her daughter had "a special glow" and was "tender and humane," and denounced that "even though she still had dreams, someone decided to take away the future" and that this cruel act "did not end only her life, but also broke ours and left a gap that cannot be filled."
The mother of the murdered woman has declared that they will proceed for her "for the dignity she deserved and so that her name never goes out." Thus, "My mother and my brothers will continue to fight to the end for truth, justice, memory, and you, always with us," concludes the letter.
The mayor of Zarautz confirms that Yoanna was a victim of male violence and stresses that "We must respect Yoanna and her family." It has also stressed the need to combat any form of violence against women.
The judge sent Yoanna's alleged killer, a 47-year-old man, to prison awaiting trial. The man had previous couple charges of gender-based violence.
