The man arrested in Azkoitia for attempted sexual assault on Christmas Eve has been imprisoned
The 60-year-old man arrested last Christmas night for attempting to sexually assault a woman in the Guipuzcoana town of Azkoitia has been placed in pre-trial detention by court order, as reported on Saturday by the Basque Department of Security.
On 24 December, around 23:00, a 49-year-old woman on the GI-631 was attacked by a man riding a bicycle and wearing a balaclava.
The alleged aggressor was arrested shortly thereafter. He tried to flee, but two people who had helped the woman caught him and held him until the Ertzaintza arrived.
According to the Azkoitia City Council, the victim is a neighbour of this town and was attacked while returning home after the end of her working day. He was then taken to a hospital to be treated for his injuries.
The Department of Safety and Security said on Saturday that after being in police custody, the alleged aggressor was brought before the court yesterday afternoon in Azpeitia.
After testifying before the guard judge, thejudge ordered him to be placed in pre-trial detention on charges of attempted sexual assault. So he was taken to Martutene prison in San Sebastian.
