Azkoitia "strongly condemns" attempted sexual assault on a woman

Azkoitia City Council has expressed its "strongest condemnation" of the attempted sexual assault suffered by a neighbourof the municipality on the night of 24 December, which occurred near the GI-631 road between Azkoitia and Loiola.
All parties represented in the City Council (PNV, EH Bildu, Azkoitia Bai and PSE-EE) have strongly condemned the attempted sexual assault and have expressed their "full support and solidarity" with women and their environment.
According to the statement of the Board of Spokespersons, "there is no right to surround and attempt to rape a woman on her way home from work." She hopes that "the aggressor will pay for what she has done" and stresses that male violence is "an evil that we must eradicate with all our might, without excuses, without justification, and without looking the other way."
As reported by the Department of Safety and Security on Thursday, the incident occurred shortly before 23:00, when the 49-year-old victim was driving along the GI-631 road between Azkoitia and Loiola and was attacked by a man riding a bicycle.
The alleged 60-year-old aggressor was arrested shortly thereafter and tried to flee, but was followed by private individuals who held him until the arrival of the Ertzaintza, who has been brought before the court.
The Board of Spokespersons thanks the people who attended and assisted the victim and values the "courage shown in retaining the aggressor." The City Council makes available to the victim all the means of assistance it can offer.
Following the City Council's call, dozens of people have participated in a rallyin Herriko Plaza at 7:00 p.m. to condemn all forms of male violence.
