The judge in the El Bocal runway case has put a third official under investigation
They are charged with six counts of murder for gross imprudence and one count of injury for gross imprudence.
The entrance to the passage collapsed as seven young men passed.
The judge investigating the causes of the collapse of the wooden passage in the El Bocal area of Santander has included in the case as an investigation a third official who was Head of Projects and Works from the establishment of the passage at the Cantonese Coastal Boundary Institution until 2023. The list of persons investigated therefore includes three persons who had previously been appointed as Head of Projects and Works (who took office in 2023).
As a result of the collapse of the runway, six young men died and a seventh was seriously injured.
In an order issued this Tuesday by the High Court of Justice of Cantabria, the judge points out that the lack of maintenance of the infrastructure could constitute a "serious negligence" and charges them with six counts of gross negligence and the possibility of committing a crime of serious negligence.
It also adds that the last official declared under investigation, like his successor, "was to be a guarantor of the structural safety of the runway" and was "obliged to promote, command or verify the inspection and maintenance activities necessary during that period of time".
According to the car, with the data provided by the expert, the passage "was open to public use, without any restrictions, and since its construction in 2014 no control, inspection and maintenance had been carried out, and apparently the material used for the hardware of the support beams was not suitable for use in works that depended on the uncovered outer environment (especially the structure on the more remote shore)".
The three officials shall testify as investigators on 15 May. At the same session, expert evidence shall be carried out, both by the judiciary (the expert has already handed over his report) and by the private prosecution and defence.
Accordingto the expert report, "the lack of adequate supervision and maintenance was able to prevent, detect and correct the progressive deterioration of the infrastructure, which posed a significant risk when the runway collapsed."
