The Ertzaintza has warned that it is conducting "a massive campaign of fraud" through SMS and WhatsApp to customers of various banks, especially in Gipuzkoa, where dozens of complaints have been received so far this year.
The Basque Government's Department of Security has reported in a note what the fraud consists of. First, the victim receives the SMS message , and apparently the sender is a number corresponding to the credit card Alcampo ONEY or Alcampo DUA ONEY . In the message, the victim is informed of a movement of money in his account, which is usually a large amount and is offered instructions to block the operation, asking him to call a phone number.
According to the statement, the victim does not receive ananswer on the above phone number, but immediately receives a video call via WhatsApp from an unknown number, in which a person presents himself as a representative of the bank and requests the victim's ID number, PIN code on the card or card number. In some cases, in the phone , it is also requested to download an NFC app and place the credit card under the reader.
