The Ertzaintza recorded 11,976 victimizations of people over 65 in 2025
Last year, in 2025, the Ertzaintza recorded 11,976 victimizations in persons aged 65 or over, more than half of which, 6,312 cases, were registered in Bizkaia, 3,676 in Gipuzkoa and 1,988 in Álava, more than half of which occurred in large municipalities with more than 50,000 inhabitants.
The largest number of victimizations were for crimes against property and socio-economic order, with a total of 10,505; the most frequent crimes were theft (3,335) and fraud (3,641); in addition, the Ertzaintza counted 236 cases of injuries, 221 cases of family abuse and 216 cases of threats.
With regard to the first months of 2026, in January and February, the Ertzaintza recorded 1,920 victimizations of persons of the same age. Crimes against property and socio-economic order are the most common in victimizations of persons over 65 years of age, with a total of 668 offences, mainly theft (530) and fraud (627).
