The Spanish Governmenthas confirmed that thecruise ship MV Hondius , damaged by an outbreak of inflammation , will dock in three days in Granada (Tenerife) and that the 14 Spaniards travelling there will be transferred to the Gómez Ulla Military Hospital in Madrid for the first medical examination.
The Ministers of Health and theInterior, Monica Garcia and Fernando Grande-Marlaska, respectively, have appeared to report on the situation. They have explained that, following the World Health Organization's request to land the ship in the Canary Islands, the guidelines and protocol have been agreed at the morning meeting in Moncloa.
Marlaska has specified that the 14 Spanish passengerson board have, for the time being, no symptoms of inflammation and that they will be taken to a military hospital in Madrid on Saturday for "proper medical examinations".
He has also assured that "all security measures will be taken "to prevent the spread of the disease. He has explained that the port of Granada is" a port with very little activity "to explain that the risk of transmission is very low.
In the same vein, Garcia has indicated that in order to ensure the safe transfer of all passengers, a strict protocol of health measures will be established. In his words, the priority is to respond "properly to the crisis" and to ensure that all passengers are well.
The cruise departed from Argentina with about 150 passengers, and at least 41 cases of inflammation have been detected on board. The first hypotheses suggest that the infected passengers da could have been infected before boarding. So far, three people have diedfrom the disease.
