The Civil Guard insists Maialen Mazon's danger situation was "extreme"
On the fourth day of the trial for the murder of Maialen Mazon, the mother of the alleged killer has also declared that her son is not capable of doing such a thing "under normal circumstances."
The Civil Guard officer who treated Maialen Mazon and took him from Burriana (Castellón) to Vitoria-Gasteiz confirms that the woman's risk situation was "extreme". In his words, he met all the requirements to be named as a victim of extreme male violence. He recalls that when the victim's custody was transferred to the Ertzaintza, the level of risk was lowered to "low" levels.
Mazon was found dead in a hotel apartment in Vitoria-Gasteiz in May 2023 with signs of violence. The next day, his partner was arrested as the alleged murderer.
The prosecution requests 45 years' imprisonment for the man for intentional murder, while the defense requests acquittalon the grounds that the alleged aggressor was in a state of mental disorder at the time of the incident.
In his statement, the Gender Violence Officer explained that the man repeatedly violated the restraining order and that the couple engaged in a violent confrontation with their two-year-old daughter, who, in his words, met all the "conditions" to say that there was an extreme risk situation.
She added that the woman played down her situation and was not really aware of what was happening to her. "She was not aware ofthe danger she was in, she said she would not be hurt and she did not understand the protective measures we were imposing on her, "the witness said.
The mother of the alleged assailant , who also testified at today's session, said her son is not capable of doing something like this "under normal circumstances."
On the other hand, two other witnesses have reported that on the day of the murder they saw the accused in the street, with his shoes stained with blood.
