A plainclothes Ertzaintza patrol arrested a man in the Old Town of Vitoria-Gasteiz accused of assaulting another with the neck of a broken bottle. The internal investigation remains open to investigate police action.
Agents of the Ertzaintza arrested a man in the early morning hours of Saturday on charges of wounding as a result of an assault on the neck of a broken bottle in the Old Town of Vitoria-Gasteiz.
According to the Department of Safety and Security, the incident occurred around 1:30 a.m., when the Ertzaintza received a warning that two men were fighting.
A plainclothes patrol came to the scene and saw that the two involved were attacking each other, at which point one of them used the neck of one broken bottle to attack the other, and the second was injured when he tried to confront the attacker.
The officers identified themselves and tried to separate the assailant from the other. He still had the broken bottle in his hand. In his threatening attitude, one of the officers removed the regulatory weapon, telling the assailant to change his attitude.
The detainee, aged 24, was transferred to police stations and subsequently brought before the court.
On the other hand, the other man involved, aged 25, was taken to a health centre in the Alavesa capital.
The Internal Affairs Department of the Ertzaintza has launched an investigation to ascertain whetherthe intervention was in accordance with the protocols established in this type of action.
