€100,000 has been reserved for the assistance of children of victims of male violence in the Basque Country
8 children of women killed by male violence against women in 2025 have been assisted. The assistance is aimed at children who are minors at the time of the mother's death and can be applied for until the age of 21.
The Department of Social Welfare, Youth and Demographic Challenge of the Basque Government has set aside an item of 100,000 euros for the support of the children of women killed by male violence. In 2025, eight children and young people received this assistance.
The grants are intended for all children residing in the CSC whose mothers have died in the context of gender-based violence since 1 January 2003.
Beneficiaries must be under 18 years of age at the time of the mother's death, and at the time of applying for assistance it is essential that they have not reached the age of 21.
Reference has been made to 1 January 2003, when victims of gender-based violence began to be counted.
It is the financial assistance that these children receive annually, up to the age of 18. In some cases, the assistance will be extended until these persons reach the age of 25: for example, when they are undergoing formal academic studies or are orphaned dependent children or have a recognized disability of 33% or more when they are minors.
Financial support for orphaned children killed by male violence against women in 2025 amounted to €421,200, of which €66,080 (15.69 per cent) has been spent, thus adjusting the figure for 2026 to €100,000.
The annual budget allocation is calculated on the basis of the aid already granted and to be paid in subsequent years.
