Three persons investigated in Bizkaia for pretending to be civil guards to obtain data on a victim of gender-based violence
The Civil Guard began investigations following a complaint filed by an advisory centre for victims of male violence.
The Bizkaia Civil Guard is investigating three persons for an alleged offence of usurpation of public functions who pretended to be agents in order to obtain information about a woman who had suffered gender-based violence, one of whom also had a sentimental relationship with and lived with the victim in Barakaldo.
According to the Civil Guard itself, the investigation began in mid-September 2025, when the coordinator of a women's counseling centre reported that a user had received an SMSmessage that identified himself as a civil guard and asked him for information about his personal situation and whether he had had problems with his former partner again.
The coordinator called the telephone and the interlocutor informed him that he wanted to be informed of the victim's situation within the Gender Violence Case Tracking System (VioGén), as well as of the existence of a\ u00A0procedure related to the alleged perpetrator.
The coordinator refused to provide the data, and thereafter investigations were initiated by the Civil Guard, focusing on the victim's environment.
As a result of these investigations, the Civil Guard has identified three persons as allegedly guilty of identity impersonation, one of whom was currently in a sentimental relationship with the woman with whom he lived in Barakaldo.
