The opening ceremony was attended by the EducationCounsellor, Begoña Pedrosa , theGeneral Deputy of Álava, Ramiro González , the Mayor of Amurrio, Txerra Molinuevo , the President of the Ikastola Aresketa, Josu Barrenengoa\ u00A0, and the President of the Ikastola Aresketa, Unai Mendizabal .
In his speech, Pedrosa has defendedthe importance of strengthening the bonds that unite Basque society and of continuing to build a strong community in a context of growing social change and diversity. Our challenge is to look to the future and remain a strong and cohesive community.
The counsellor has also pointed out that the Basque language is one of the strengths of the Basque Country in building the future. The Basque Country is who we are and what we want to be. Pedrosa has also focused on the students and the work that is done every day in schools.
Societies thrive when they are able to assimilate different people, different experiences and new ways of looking at the world, he said, proclaiming an open, cohesive society capable of continuing to build community from diversity.
For his part, thepresident of Araba Euskaraz, Unai Mendizabal , has stressed that since the creation of these ikastolas therehas been a great advance in the Euskaldunization of citizenship , but "it is time to respond together to the regression of use and attacks on the Euskera".
