Osakidetza implants eVACCINE to improve vaccine control and safety

The system is being tested in several OSI Bilbao-Basurto centers, and key data for each vaccine can be automatically recorded before it is administered.

Osakidetza has introduced the eVACCINE, a new scanning tool that allows youto automatically read the batch and expiration date of each vaccine , with the aim of strengthening safety in the delivery of vaccines, reducing errors in manual registration and improving the traceability of the process.

The initiative has been presented at the Miribilla health centre by health officials from the Department of Health and Osakidetza as part of the vaccine safety improvement plan.

The system is in a pilot phase at various OSI centres in Bilbao-Basurto and, once validated, will be progressively extended to the entire health network. The aim of the project is to improve the traceability of each dose from the receipt of these doses to their administration as an area considered essential to patient safety.

The tool works by reading DataMatrix codes on each track, and once scanned, it displays a "traffic light" to check systems: green if the vaccine is valid, yellow if it needs to be manually checked, and red if it's expired, which blocks the vaccine.

In case of correct validation, the data is inserted directly into the patient's medical records in a few steps, which reduces the administrative burden and avoids manual transcription errors, and the information is recorded on the digital insertion card, accessible from the Health Folder.

According to Osakidetza, the system is secure and does not store personal data in compliance with data protection regulations. It is also part of an ongoing set of measures to improve vaccine management, such as extinction control, logistical standardization or professional training.

After the summer, there will be a second phase in the development of the project, in which the tool will make it possible to integrate data more automatically into the clinical system and digitize the process.

With this initiative, the Department of Health and Osakidetza emphasize their commitment to safer, more controlled and homogeneous vaccination across the public network . the system strengthens patient traceability and safety throughout the vaccination circuit.

Despite their extensive work throughout the year, and especially during the Sanfermines, their efforts do not always receive the recognition they deserve. They have been given the responsibility to launch this year's blowjob, which will be an incentive for health workers to get on with the work of the holidays. Clint Fernandez, Deputy Director of Emergencies, and Araceli Sergio, Nurse, will take to the balcony of the City Hall on behalf of all the emergency staff.
