They managed to keep the Galarreta fire from spreading to new areas tonight
Firefighters and workers managed last night to perimeter the fire that has been burning in the Aizkorri-Aratz Natural Park on the grounds of Galarreta and Zalduondo since last Friday.
Bulldozers have been building firewalls to protect the area since yesterday and thus prevent the fire from spreading to new areas, but extinction efforts are becoming difficult due to extreme temperatures and strong southern wind.
During the night work has been done thoroughly and with the breaking of the morning, air support has been added to the ground shutdown work, with an operation consisting of ground personnel and volunteers from the fire parks of Campezo, Espejo, Salvatierra and Nanclares de la Oca, as well as MInisterio reinforcement brigades and air helicopters and two ACT aircraft from the Ministry of Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge.
The fire started last Friday by lightning in the vicinity of the Aizkorri-Aratz Natural Park. Although the Álava Fire Department managed to extinguish it on Saturday morning, the flames reignited and several spotlights are active.
As it is a mountainous area, it is uninhabited, so there is no danger to the population, nor, for the time being, has anyone had to be evicted.
