Osakidetza has given 219,000 flu vaccination appointments since the start of the campaign 2026/2027 since 28 September, of whichmore than 18,000 are children between 6 months and 5 years of age.
The Department of Health of the Basque Government has provided data for these first two weeks of the campaign, calling on those who have not been vaccinated to make an appointment or go to the vaccination centres, since, as it has recalled, the vaccine is "the most effective tool for preventing complications, hospitalizations and influenza related deaths".
In this regard, according to data provided by Osakidetza itself, since the beginning of the season, 497 cases of influenza have been treated in primary care and 1,516 cases of covid-19. In addition, 71 people have had to behospitalized for influenza, two of them in the intensive care unit (ICU).
The Department of Health has made a special appeal for vaccination for people aged 60 or over, with chronic illnesses such as diabetes, COPD or heart disease, pregnant women and children under 5 years of age, and has stressed that "through vaccination we also protect those around us."
