The fires in Arcachon and the Landes remain out of control, and four other municipalities near Bordeaux have been evacuated

The two major forest fires in south-west France remain out of control. On Saturday, the French authorities ordered the preventive eviction of four other municipalities near Bordeaux, where the Gironda fire continues.

The evacuation order affects the towns of Saint-Medard-en-Jalles, Saint-Jean-d'Aillac, Martignas-sur-Jalle and Saint-Aubin-de-Medoc.

The Gironda fire continues to advance towards Bordeaux.

Wednesday's fire north of Arcachon Bay has already destroyed nearly a hundred buildings, and the French authorities are on high alert.

The evacuated municipalities include Saint-Medard-en-Jalles , where a high-risk Seveso industrial facility is located, producing components for the European Ariane rocket and propellant for missiles and rockets.

As a preventive measure, the French Government has strengthened the protection of these industrial facilities and urged the population not to travel to Gironda, where the emergency has coincided with one of the largest summer holiday trips, while the traffic agency Bison Fute  has recommended the use of alternative routes for travel between France and Spain.

More than 141,000 evacuees and Army reinforcements

Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu has confirmed that more than 141,000 people have been evacuated from Gironda and the Landes since the start of the emergency, and that the Government has sent another 500 military personnel , with more than 1,000 troops assisting in firefighting and evacuation efforts.

According to the French Government, the Gironda fire has caused a phenomenon known as "convective fire," which gives it the ability to create its own winds and suddenly change direction, a situation that French civil security experts have described as unprecedented.

Meanwhile, the second major fire in the Landes is still out of control, and has already burned more than 3,000 hectares .
