Aburto has lamented the death of Frank Gehry and stressed that his work will continue in Bilbao
Bilbao Mayor Juan Mari Aburto this Friday lamented the death of architect Frank Gehry and claimed that his work will last "forever" in the Byzantine capital.
"One of the greatest architects in the world has left us, but his work will last forever in our city," Aburto wrote on the social network X after learning of the architect's death. "Bilbao will always be grateful for the talent of Frank Gehry and the love he had for our city," he added.
Gehry, who was born in Toronto and moved to Los Angeles as a teenager, died this Friday at his home in Santa Monica, California, after suffering from respiratory illness.
He is the designer of the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, inaugurated in 1997 and has since become an icon of the city and a symbol of its great urban transformation.
