Fourteen filmmakers present their first or second films at the New Directors

Fourteen filmmakers will compete for the New Directors-Kutxabank Award at the San Sebastian Film Festival in September.

This section of the festival aims to open the way internationally to the first or second films of the directors, and awards a prize of 50,000 euros, under the auspices of Kutxabank.

'The Bad Son/The Bad Son ', the first opera by Spanish actor Jaime Lorente, will open the section, where the protagonist will learn how wounds are transmitted from generation to generation in a rural family and will strive to heal them as much as possible.

On the other hand, the German Naëmi Ada premieres her first opera, 'Body of Glass', a film that tells the story of a young dancer who, after getting angry with her friend, breaks off her toxic relationship and begins to lead a parallel life.

"Lluvia," the second film by the Mexican Rodrigo García Saiz, will tell in San Sebastian the connection that is forged through death between a local veterinarian and a local master.

Also, the Norwegian filmmaker based in Denmark, Marlene Emilie Lyngstad, will show at the San Sebastian festival 'Cute', the story of a man who is worried about drowned feelings that he cannot reveal.

'The Ballet Lesson ', the second work by Japanese director Kazuya Murayama, refers to the experience of a former Russian soldier who has returned to Japan in search of his children.

Kazakh filmmaker Ayana Nurdinova will compete at the Festival with the first opera 'Mugalim'. A music teacher is looking forward to leaving the town of ￮

On the other hand, Iranian Massih Parsaei debuts in feature films with 'Lovers Sleep Alone', a film that portrays the life of a young Iranian exile with precarious jobs in Berlin. Taiwanese Lu Po-Shun, for his part, reflects a young man's struggle in his first film, 'Ri Guang/Will You Still Be My Friend': he does not want to lose his relationship with a Singaporean friend.

Obuvkite na bashta mi/My Father's Shoes brings Hristo Simeonov Bulgaria to San Sebastian for the first time. A young woman and her mother must identify the body of their father and husband after living away from him.

The Chilean Thomas Woodroffe will present in New Directors his first feature film, Rotary Bloque/Erratics, in which the ghost of filmmaker Lucien Castelnau is released from a glacier after a hundred years of waiting.

South Korean director Yoon Dan-bi also premieres at the San Sebastian festival his second film, 'The World Before', which tells the story of a young woman who lives peacefully with her grandmother on a remote island.

"This Solitude/This Solitude" by bilbaíno Javier Giner and "February, Seven Days" by Ukrainian Tatjana Moutchnik complete the list of this section dedicated to the new directors, while the British Billy Lumby will close the section with "Florid".
