Patxi Zubizarreta gets the Xabier Lete scholarship
The committee of experts of the 2025 edition of the Xabier Lete scholarship for literary creation in Basque promoted by the Basque Government and the BBVA Foundation has selected the writer Patxi Zubizarreta Dorronsoro to grant a grant of 70,000 euros; for a year he will work on the project 'The Woman Who Looked at the Man Who Looked at the Birds', according to the promoters of the scholarship.
In Zubizarreta's novel proposal, a navigator decides to leave the house to observe his wife.
"I have titled the project 'The Woman Who Looked At the Man Who Looked At the Birds', 'which tells the story of a ship's captain who, instead of embarking on a voyage, decides to hide in a refuge on the ground to navigate his wife's privacy after installing cameras in the house they share with a third person, an anacoreta who was rescued and protected by the captain himself," explains the author.
Zubizarreta has received the Basque Country Prize for Literature, the Lizardi Prize, the Ignacio Aldecoa Prize and the Ala Delta Prize (twice).
After winning last year's call by writer Eider Rodriguez, the committee of experts that has evaluated the proposals of the second edition has been chaired by Jon Kortazar Uriarte, accompanied by Alexander Gurrutxaga Muxika, Katixa Agirre, Aritz Galarraga and Lourdes Otaegi.
