The PNV is putting the finishing touches to its proposal to protect the Basque Country by law in public employment
One day after EH Bildu registered the reform of the Public Employment Act to give legal certainty to the Basque Country, the PNV has confirmed that it has been working for weeks on a proposal to guarantee linguistic rights in the processes of access to public employment, adding that in the next few days it will make a "final attempt"to reach agreement with the PSE-EE on the proposal.
Interviewed in Onda Vasca, the president of the PNV in Álava, Jone Berriozabal, has acknowledged that she hopes that jeltzales and the PSE-EE will conclude an agreement this week. Her party has said "in any case" that it will "do what it has to do", that is, "take a step forward to advance the normalization of the Euskera."
Berriozabal has expressed concern about the sentences against the Euskera, which, in his view, "are undermining the historically reached consensus between different sensitivities" and is questioning "the work done to normalize the use of the Basque language in public administration".
In any case, it remains to be seen whether there will be an agreement with the Socialist Party, since PSE-EE Secretary-General Eneko Andueza made it clear yesterday in Euskadi Irratia that they will "prioritise labour rights between linguistic and labour rights .
International Congress for the Revitalization of the Basque Country, 2027
It was clear that the words of lehendakari Imanol Pradales in the "Euskera Qualitative Leap" initiative held on Monday in Bilbao would stimulate debate. It should be remembered that the lehendakari announced that the Government will hold an international conference onthe revitalization of the Basque Country in 2027.
And the first statements came the next morning, when EH Bildu's spokesman, Pello Otxandiano , said in an interview with radio Naiz yesterday that the leap that the Euskera needs "cannot wait two years" and announced that he would registera reform of the Public Employment Act to ensure legal protection for the Euskera.
The Group intends that "the requirement of both languages shall be general" and that "jobs determined by the public authorities shall be exempted in a justified and objective manner", in which case the Basque profile shall be assessed as merit.
The spokeswoman for the Basque Government, Maria Ubarretxena , sees as an "additional paragraph" the reform of the Public Employment Act that EH Bildu has registered todayinParliament in order to guarantee legal protection for the Basque Country, but according to which the revitalization of the Basque Country will not come "with a timely change in a specific law".
