Abalos and Koldo will testify today at the Supreme Court for allegedly collecting tips in public works
The Supreme Court judge has questioned former Minister José Luis Ábalos and former Transport Adviser Koldo García in the case of alleged irregular public works awards during his time as Minister of Transport. The investigation indicates that bribery, criminal organization and trafficking in influence could constitute offences and could lead to new precautionary measures.
Supreme Court Judge Leopoldo Puente will today question former Minister José Luis Ábalos Garraio and his closest adviser, Koldo García, following new data advanced by the investigation, which indicates that there was an alleged distribution of irregular public employment awards.
Police activities in recent weeks (UCO report, more than 10 searches, requests for information at PSOE headquarters or the Ministry of Transport...) have given way to the judge's interrogations .
It will be the first appearances since the report of the Central Operational Unit of the Civil Guard pointed to Ábalos and Koldo for their alleged irregular awards to companies in the construction world during the first term of the Ministry of Transport (2018-2021) and also mentioned the former third president of the PSO, Santos Cerdán, who resigned and left his seat.
Santos Cerdán will appear on 30 June and at the beginning of July five businessmen will appear before the judge who allegedly participated in the awards and received tips.
This Monday will be the turn of Ábalos and Koldo, who testified before the judge a few months ago and imposed as a precautionary measure a ban on leaving the country and an obligation to appear in court every fortnight.
The popular accusations coordinated by the PP are considering whether to tighten these measures and do notexclude prison.
Koldo Garcia was initially in favour of not testifying, but a few days ago he was in favour after changing counsel; Ábalos, for his part, expressed his desire to do so.
The judge sees evidence in the case of crimes of criminal organization and bribery against Ábalos and Koldo, along with trafficking in influence.
The Civil Guard reports that they allegedly received 620,000 euros from the company Acciona, which was managed by Santos Cerdán, and that according to Koldo there are 450,000 euros to be collected .
The report notes thatthe conversations recorded by Koldo from 2019 to 2023 "feed" , and that these conversations relate to "the payment of alleged compensation due after the award of public works."
