Jon Goikolea, new director of the Arkaute Academy
Goikolea was Juan Mari Atutxa's right-hand man during his years as Security Counselor. Mira Dobaran resigned in August with deputy director Amaya Angulo.
The Basque Government announced today who will replace Mira Dobaran at the head of the Arkaute Academy. The new director will be the Vitorian journalist Jon Goikolea. Born in 1959, Goikolea was closely linked to the Security Department of the Basque Government in the 1990s.
In fact, Goikolea was responsible for communication in that department at the beginning of that decade, with Juan Mari Atutxa as Counsellor, and then in 1996 he took over the Cabinet Directorate of the Security Adviser. Between 1998 and 2009 he was Director of Communication of the Presidency of the Basque Parliament (then President of the Basque Parliament Juan Mari Atutxa).
Goikolea will be in charge of the General Directorate of the Arkaute Academy, and Olga Fernandino will be the Director of Administration and Services of the Basque Academy of Police and Emergencies. Goikolea and Fernandino will be in charge of implementing the new educational model of the Academy.
Among other things, students will have to spend the night in Arkaute again for the duration of their training and the online training model will also be developed through the Arkanpus digital platform.
Goikolea comes to take the witness of Mira Dobaran, who, together with Amaya Angulo, resigned last August.
After the decision, they sent a letter thanking the "involvement" of the Arkaute staff and the Department's colleagues. "It was a very enriching adventure," they said.
