Marcos Vizcaya, the PNV spokesman in the Transition and one of the negotiators of the Gernika Statute, died on Monday atthe age of 78.
PNV PresidentAitor Esteban has reported his death on social media, stressing " the importance of his work during the decisive period "for the Basque Autonomous Community.
Vizcaya, aPNV militant since 1977 , was elected a deputy in the general election on 15 June of the same year and renewed his seat in the general election on 1 March 1979, after winning third place in the PNV candidacy for Bizkaia.
In 1979, he was one of the most active negotiators with the UCD Government, and in July of that year the terms of the Gernika Autonomy Statute were agreed.
He is co-author of the book El PNV ante la Constitución, considered the ideological basis of this party in constitutional debates.
