The General Meetings of Álava have approved the 2026 draft budget with the votes of PNV, PSE and Elkarrekin Podemos-IU

The General Meetings of Álava this Friday approved the draft budget for 2026 with the votes in favour of PNV, PSE and Elkarrekin Podemos-IU and the rejection of PP, EH Bildu and Vox . After its approval, theGeneral Representative of Álava, Ramiro González , has denounced the "prepotent" position of EH Bildu and accused the PP of being "in permanent confrontation."

The draft foral budget for 2026 has been successful with the support of Elkarrekin Podemos-IU, which last weekwithdrew the amendment tothe whole  and reached an agreement with the Foral Government on the environment of private residencesin Álava.

In this context, the Foral Member of Finance, ItziarGonzalo , has stated in plenary that the project "has been strengthened following the agreement reached, with contributions that extendits scope , and with a clear vocation for stability ".

Likewise, the PNV spokesman, Iñaki Ruiz de Galarreta , has praised "the agreement between three different parties, with opposing views in some cases, but with the will to improve the well-being of the citizens."

For his part, PSE-EE spokesman Josu Lopez has stated that these budgets aim to "order, prioritize and use" public resources to "maintain and improve the standard of living of the citizens of Álava."

In this regard, Elkarrekin Podemos-IU spokesman David Rodriguez has been satisfied with the agreement reached and has applauded the fact that the budgets have taken a "more progressive direction" in relation to the five agreements reached with them.

Among them, it has highlighted the promotion of the Álava Private Residences Agreement , with an allocation of almost eight and a half million euros for the next three years; measures topromote access to housing  with 12 million euros; for a new foral resource for people living with Sinhogarism with 2.7 million euros; orfor free foral transport for students under 20 years of age .

However, according to EH Bildu, the budgets presented are "insufficient" and "the opportunity has been missed to continue reorienting the policies" of the Council, said its spokeswoman, Eva Lopez de Arroyabe . "With this direction it has become clear that the Council, once again, has no clear direction for public policies at a time when Álava needs more."

Iñaki Oyarzabal, spokesman for PP, has stated that this agreement involves "ideological spending" and "prescriptions that affect wrong and failed budgets." He has said that the increase in revenue "is not a success" and that the Council's problem is not one of resources, but of "mismanagement."

Finally, the spokesman for Vox , Jonathan Romero , has said that the budgets are "worse, more radical and more ideological." "New games have been introduced that respond to the obsessions of the extreme left, but do not respond to the real needs of Álava."
