Social Security Minister and Spanish Government spokeswoman Elma Saiz advanced on Tuesday that the executive has been preparing a "comprehensive, calibrated and effective response" to alleviate the economic consequences of the war in the Middle East.
At the end of the meeting of the Council of Ministers, the spokesman indicated that throughout this week the government will exchange ideas with all parliamentary groups, including the social partners, employers and trade unions, and will listen to the European Commission's proposals for measures in the face of the current conflict in the Middle East.
On the one hand, it will include a "short-term" plan containing measures to "protect families, workers and businesses", but it will also include a "structural" plan with measures to accelerate the "ecological transition" and "strengthen strategic autonomy".
Aagesen: message of tranquillity
For her part, the Minister for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge and Third Vice-President, Sara Aagesen, has sent out a "message of tranquillity" in the face of the conflict and has ensured that the current situation is "different" from that of the outbreak of war in Ukraine.
Thus, it explains that Spain's direct exposureto energy supply through the Straitof Hormuz is less than 2% for gas and less than 5% for oil.
It has also indicated that the Government is holding 'numerous meetings' with European partners and is monitoring the price of crude oil, which has increased by 28% over the days leading up to the conflict, and the evolution of light, which has risen by 80%.

Tax measures are not ruled out

Aagesen has stressed that Spain has a lower risk of gas and oil by increasing renewable energies in the energy mix and has indicated that the country must opt for the "unlimited resource" of renewable energies.
