The Basque Government has granted a semi-liberty regime to the former head of ETA Soledad Iparragirre Anboto , so that the prisoner may be released from prison from Monday to Friday, but must go to sleep.
Sources from the Department of Justice and Human Rights of the Basque Government have confirmed to EITB the change of regime. Iparragirre is being heldin Gipuzkoa prison serving his sentence for his involvement in several attacks.
It is not the third degree, but an intermediate formula permitted by the prison regulations when the prisoner has already served a large part of his sentence, so that the prisoner has the right to leave from Monday to Friday to work or to volunteer, always returning to sleep. In order to obtain the semi-liberty regime, the prisoner must submit a "implementation plan" specifying the working hours or the activity in question.
The Public Prosecutor's Office of the National High Court will now have to issue a non-binding report, and the final decision will be taken by the Central Prison Supervision Court of the National High Court, according to the sources.
