Gernika will remember the 89th anniversary of the bombing, amid the controversy over the transfer of Picasso's work of art
The events on Sunday will begin at 11 a.m. with the inauguration of the sculpture "Place of Democratic Memory". The Basque Government has asked the Spanish Government to temporarily transfer the Guernica de Picasso to the Guggenheim museum in Bilbao on the occasion of the 90th anniversary of the bombing.
The Gernika-Lumo City Councilwill commemorate the victims of the fascist attack of 26 April 1937 on the occasion of the 89 anniversary of the bombing.

In the evening, in Garreta, there is no fire burning,the play and the candlelight tour organized by Gernika Batzordea Lobake will close the 89th anniversary program.

"We have them in our memory and they will always be in the historical memory of Gernika," said Mayor José María Gorroño today, Saturday, at an event in honor of the warriors.
The event was attended by the victims of the bombing by the German Condor Legion and the Italian Legionary aircraft and their families.
