Today, 89 years old, the bombing of Gernika and its victims is being remembered in the town of Biscay.
In the morning, a steel sculpture was inaugurated that represents the "symbolic gate to peace", a monument that has been erected on Portu Street and inscribed with the inscription "Place of Democratic Memory", a recognition granted to Gernika by the Spanish Government in 2023.
The event was attended by the Secretary of State for Democratic Memory, Fernando Martínez, the Mayor of Gernika, José María Gorroño, and the Government delegate to the Basque Country, Marisol Garmendia.
