Ongoing trial on alleged irregular hiring of David Sanchez with preliminary issues
The jury will have to determine whether the 2017 hiring of the brother of the President of the Spanish Government, Pedro Sánchez, as coordinator of the musical activities of the conservatories in the Badajoz Council met all the legal requirements, or whether it was an alleged plug-in case.
On Thursday, David Sánchez, brother of Pedro Sánchez, and ten others, including the former Secretary-General of the PSOE of Extremadura and former President of the Provincial Council of Badajoz, Miguel Ángel Gallardo, left for trial in theProvincial High Court of Badajoz for alleged offences of administrative prevarication and trafficking in influence.
The jury will have to determine whether the processof hiring David Sanchez as Conservatory Music Activities Coordinator at the Badajoz Council in 2017 met all the legal requirements or wasan alleged plug-in.
David Sánchez and Miguel Ángel Gallardo, then president of the Badajoz Council, are charged with alleged offences of trafficking in influence and administrative prevarication, along with nine other persons investigated, all of whom are politicians linked to the province.
This Thursday and Friday the trial will begin with preliminary questions, the main arguments of which will be presented to the jury composed of Judges José Antonio Patrocinio Pérez, Dolores Fernández and Emilio Serrano (lawyers for the eleven accused and lawyers for the seven popular indictments).
The court's granting of two days for preliminary questions shows that there will be many issues to be raised: possible violations of fundamental rights, considerations on the content and purpose of evidence, proposals for further evidence, or incompetence and requests for annulment of certain proceedings, are provided for.
From Monday, witnesses will testify, and on Thursday , June 4, the eleven persons investigated, including David Sánchez and Miguel Ángel Gallardo, will testify before Judge Emilio Serrano if the timetable initially set by the Provincial High Court is met.
Seven popular indictments
In addition to the PP and Vox , Manos Limpia , Hazte Oir, Abogados Cristianos, Liberum Elkartea and Iustitia Europa.
The case began in May 2024, when the organization Manos Limpia filed its first complaint, so it considered it to be a plug-in case in favor of the brother of the President of the Spanish Government, and then the rest of the popular accusations were added.
The popularindictments call for three years' imprisonment and 12 years' disqualification for David Sanchez; the Public Prosecutor's Officerequests the acquittal of all of them.
