Relatives of those killed by Francoism in Elciego plant an olive tree in their honor
The Association for Memory and Democratic Culture, La Pilastra, was presented at the event, an Alavesa association that was born with the aim of restoring the memory of the victims and working to promote the values on which coexistence is based.

The people killedby Franco 's repression in the Alavesa town of Elciego were remembered this Sunday by a tribute paid by relatives of the victims.
They have planted an olive tree as a symbol of memory and dignity, and have presented La A0Pilastra Association for Memory and Democratic Culture ere, an association they have created with the intention of working to recover the memory of the victims and promote values as a basis for coexistence.
The name La Pilastra refers to a place in Zambrana where about 30 people were killed for their "political and social commitment and opposition to the 1936 coup d'état."
During the event, several family members made a collective reading of the text "The Olive Tree of Memory". They claim that "there are memories that are part of the intimate history of a people" and that they "will remain alive as long as someone keeps them and shares them."
After reading the text, they planted the olive tree and, together with neighbours and institutional representatives, made a floral offering in the village cemetery in front of the tombstone that houses the remains recovered in 1979.
